It's Almost Dry - Pusha T

the album that got me into cocaine rap. this album brings so much to the table. luxurious production from kanye a pharrell, bar after bar from pusha t him self, and a plethora of cocaine references. this album taught me so many new words, processes, and measuring systems. This album definitely lacks any type of consistent narrative the cocaine motif keeps the album feeling coherent. while perhaps not on the same level of its predecessor DAYTONA the trap influenced beats and more traditional delivery do a good job of entrancing casual rap fan. this album does have a few noticeable weak points where it feels dry(call my bluff) which is especially disappointing given the short length of the album. overall a really great album with a lot of good replay value. favorite songs - neck and write (the single that got me into the album) - let the smokers shine the coups (the beat is insane) - brembleton - diet coke (i didn’t like it when it was just the single but after listening to the album i enjoy it) - dreaming of the past (minus the kanye verse)

RED & WHITE - Lil Uzi Vert

On the surface level a phenomenal project from uzi. Easily one of his best projects in recent memory. His flows are on point and his energy is as punchy as ever. The production is fast paced with his signature other-worldly aesthetic. While the mixing throughout the album is rough, especially compared to Eternal Atake, in many instances this only serves to make the songs slap harder (Issa Hit as a prime example). It was a very enjoyable project to listen to and put a smile on my face the whole way through. Still, at the end of the day im left with a question. Can Uzi ever truly evolve. What makes the project great is that it’s a regression to his old style. With a fanbase that is self-admittedly stuck in the past will Uzi truly ever be able to evolve and grow as an artist. Hopefully Uzi next album will answer this question, only time will tell… Favorite Songs - Issa Hit - Hittin my shoulder - Gl*ck in my purse - Cigarette

Igor - Tyler the Creator

This album was a tough listen for me. Uncovering the underlining story was difficult due to the mountains of amazing production on top of it. Something is truly special about the synthesized arpeggios on RUNNING OUT OF TIME. The albums lead single is a hit in its own right. The hidden features laced through out the album are especial satisfying to catch. While the story isn’t especially complex it honestly doesn’t have to be. This album is still great Favorite Songs - GONE, GONE / THANK YOU - RUNNING OUT OF TIME - I THINK - EARFQUAKE - PUPPET

Yeezus - Kanye West

One of my favorite albums of all time. It has a very similar effect to whole lotta red where it sounds bad at first listen but gets better with time. I think there are two main aspects that make this album great. The relatively short length of the album and the experimentation that takes place in that time frame. These two aspects alone are what make this album enjoyable listen after listen and sound fresh each time. We have to thank rick rubin for narrowing down the track list to the most impactful songs. We also have to give credit french edm producers like daft punk for contributing to the experimental sound of the album. Last but not least we absolutely have to thank virgil abloh and george condo for designing the iconic album cover that perfectly matches the industrial sound of the album. There are a few moments where the album falls flat like on “send it up”. There’s also the kid cudi controversy that hangs over the song “guilt trip”. Still a great album Great Songs - New Slaves - Black Sk!nhead - Im in it - Bound 2 - On Sight

Cherry Bomb - Tyler the Creator

= Backstory = I had low expectations for this album going into it. The way Tyler and his fanbase talk about it makes it seem like it’s the most inconsistent and unreliable piece of music to ever be made. After listening to it I will admit it is weak in comparison to other projects in Tyler’s discography but the high points in the album are nothing short of great. = Backstory Over = All prejudice aside I really enjoyed this album. While it’s not nearly as sonically solidified as Tyler’s former or later work hearing this album is still good. Constantly shifting from Tyler’s older sound, more severe sound to a an incomplete version of his new sound. The dichotomy of both sounds keeps the album interesting throughout. Still only a handful of songs have made there way into my rotation and i find a lot of the songs to be underwhelming. Still an enjoyable listen especially when examined from the perspective of his latest releases favorite songs: - smuckers - f+cking young/perfect - okaga - deathcamp - find your wings

Madvillany - MF DOOM

Perhaps the greatest release from the supervillain. One of the few albums that is just as enjoyable to read as it is to listen to. The greatness of this album goes beyond MF DOOM’s amazing rhyming and storytelling ability. The production provided by Madlib is just as captivating. Every beat flows well and the skits and sound bites sprinkled in elevate this album to an unmatched level of immersion. Favorite songs: - Raid - Meat Grinder - All Caps - Money Folder - Fancy Clown

Pray for Paris - Westside Gunn

Another legendary work of art from griselda founder westside gunn. this album is exactly what i imagine robbing the louver sounds like. The shear number of high art references is amazing, especially given many of them are american artists with ties to african american culture. songs like 327 or french toast offer a unique yet comforting sound while songs like party wit pop smoke and le djoliba are true testaments to westside gunn's creativity. $500 ounces is an ode to a creative fusion we might never see again. 400 million plus tax and the outro to george bondo do so much to illustrate the environment the album encapsulates you in. favorite songs: - french toast - $500 ounces - 327 - party wit pop smoke - le djoliba - versace

The Life of Pablo - Kanye West

one of my 3 favorite albums of all time. this album is not only a masterclass in abstract storytelling it is also a true innovation in the album release process. This album excellently touches every musical style kanye made use of up to that point in order to truely illustrate the internal conflict kanye was going through at the time. what separates this album from other albums was the long-running periodic updates it received to truly make it a “living breathing creative expression” amazing songs - waves - 30 hours - no more parties in la - father stretch my hands pt1 - wolves

Big Fish Theory - Vince Staples

Amazing album. The production is so unique, not only for Vince Staples but for rap as a whole. This album is a captivating listening experience the whole way through. It almost reminds me of Yeezus with its experimentation but a lot less jarring. The samples and hidden features contribute nicely without taking over Favorite Songs - Love Can Be - 745 - Yeah Right - Homage - Bagbak
