User Interface changes to the way tags are handled added when writing a capsule. Now way more space effecient plut a lot of optimization on the backend of things.
You can now add code snippets to your capsules. Here's a linked list node in C.
typedef struct Node {
int value;
void *next;
} Node;
You can finally write with rich text support on Opium. This means you can now bold, Italicize, underline, and strike-through text to your heart's content.
You can also now change the text alignment.
Or add hyperlinks
Codeblocks are on the way
Also, there has been a significant change under the hood. In URLs capsules are now indexed by UUIDs rather than sequential IDs. This should make scrapping information from the website a lot harder. This also means that old links to capsules (like on an Instagram story) won't work.
I'll get straight to the point, what Reddit is currently doing with their API pricing is absolutely atrocious and detrimental to the community they've worked so hard to build up. Following in the bleak footsteps of Twitter and Twitch, Reddit is making a blatant cash-grab at the expense of its users. While it'd be very easy for me to say "tHiS IS WHY YOu sHOULd UsE OpIUM", I'd like to instead highlight some other platforms that actually respect their users Mastodon: A great alternative for Twitter for people who want something reliable Dread: A great alternative for Reddit for people who are a little familiar with the dark web I'm sure there are more and feel free to reply with more.
I just wanted to provide some important resources for Opium including our GitHub repository, our terms and conditions, and our privacy policy. For any inquiries, we can be reached at contact@opium.press.
You can now write replies to capsules, yayy
My temporary strategy is flat-out IP banning Microsoft and OpenAI from accessing the website. I'm still thinking of a more long-term solution to the problem, feel free to contact me if you have any ideas or contribute to the source code directly by forking the Git repository.
In order to protect the intellectual property of the writers on Opium from here on out we are committed to keeping all content posted here off of ChatGPT. We believe it is unfair for organizations to profit from your writing, especially without your explicit consent. From this point Microsoft and OpenAI are permanently banned from Opium.press
Finally, the platform can scale to handle a large number of capsules.
Hi, my name is Jaden. I am the creator of this platform. I've been programming for 5 years now and it's something I love to do. Basically, I got tired of people posting paragraphs on Instagram and Snapchat and I really don't like people trying to break up a long thought into multiple tweets. If you want a place to fully express a lengthy idea, Opium is the place. Another thing I don't like is people impulse-posting to social media without fully thinking through what they're putting into the world. That's the point of the embargo. Currently, it takes 3 days for a capsule to leave the embargo and be public. While a capsule is in embargo it isn't visible to anyone else on the platform. It also is the only time you can delete a capsule. After a capsule leaves the embargo it cannot be deleted or edited in any way. The most important thing to keep in mind is to think before you post. Whatever you say is going to be out there forever. You can't delete your account and you can't delete any of your capsules. You have 3 days to reconsider but after that it's permanent. As the admin, I have the ability to delete capsules but I won't unless the capsule violates one of the rules. There are three rules on Opium. You can't post anything that aims to directly insight violence, you can't post leaked government documents, and you can't post copyrighted material you don't have permission to use. Everything else is fair game. You'll most likely see me posting on here from time to time and I can't wait to see what you write. If you have any questions or concerns you can email me at contact@opium.press.
